How incredibly easy is it to go overboard? Over the last few days I’ve been asked by co-workers if my accessories double as self defense weapons at night. Apparently I am easily charmed by baubles. The 10 minutes before I leave the house, I’m stacking. Stacking rings, double layering chains, adding charms, roping necklaces to make them bracelets. Excessive jewelry, like the mini skirt and head to toe white are one of those style practices that takes savvy. When done right its chic and interesting. When done wrong it’s incredibly easy to come off looking cheap and overdone. One of the tricks here is to start with one really strong textured piece (say a studded or spiked bracelet) and then add simpler pieces with contrast to that (layering simple chain bracelets in gold and silver). Once you’ve graduated from elementary level excess its time to move on and adorn further. I realized that this is an inevitable graduation when I found myself on browsing freshtrends.com at 2:30 in the morning which is thrilling just for the massive collection of studs, buds and shiny things. I am instantly motivated to decorate myself when I see jewelry, in any form, worn well. Worn Often. And worn in excess.
